About the Author

James C. Carpenter Dr. Jim Carpenter is both a clinical psychologist and a research parapsychologist.  He is a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology, ABPP, and a Fellow in the American Academy of Clinical Psychology, and was formerly a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology.  He served as Secretary and a two- term board director for the American Academy of Clinical Psychology, and carries on an active private practice.

Dr. Carpenter has been active in parapsychological research since he came to Duke University as an undergraduate in order to meet and work with Dr. J. B. Rhine who founded the Parapysychology Laboratory there.  His research work has continued since then, with over 100 research articles, book chapters and more popular articles.  He has been President of the Board of the Rhine Research Center, and has served as President and as a board director for the Parapsychology Association.  For many years he has also provided pro bono clinical consultation for persons who approach the Rhine Center for help with unpleasant experiences that they think of as psychic.  He recently published a book developing a theory of psi, called First Sight:  ESP and Parapsychology in Everyday Life.
